The fleet woke up to another sunny day with the plenty of pressure already on early in the morning. Crews slowly ambled down to the fabulous ONE°15 Marina Club to rig and tune their boats for another competitive day of racing at the SB20 Singapore National Championships.
The fleet headed off just after 10.00am after PRO Jonathan Kwek raised the D flag signaling his approval for the fleet to head out to the race course. The fleet made good time heading out to the race course with the generous tide helping out.
PRO did an excellent job in swiftly getting the fleet going straight off with the U-flag firmly in place right from the outset. With the wind shifting furiously, there were boats on either side of the race course on the same heading on opposite tacks. Tacticians and crews were stressed to the limit like a game of snakes and ladders, that was Race 1. Glasgow Kiss took home the win with Xtra Mile2 in a close second place and Porco Rosso goose winging their way downwind into third place.
The PRO wasted no time in getting Race 2 underway under the U-flag. The shifts kept coming and places kept changing upwind and downwind with Glasgow Kiss again finding their way into first, Xtra Mile2 sailing a super race into second and Tara coming back strong to finish third.
Race 3 served up more drama with Meraki and Team Hanuman collecting UFDs at the start and Tara losing their jib halyard whilst challenging for the lead, leaving Porco Rosso to slip through for a well deserved win, with Glasgow Kiss coming in second and Xtra mile2 combining third showing great consistency.
The final race of the day saw the wind up to the strongest of the day and still, more shifty than a bag of weasels. With an even start Tara took to early shifts to the right to get the jump on the fleet to round the first mark first with Xtra mile2 close on their heels but with the wind serving up more treats the place changes continued.
After two superb days of sailing and eight solid races, the leader board finished as follows;
1. Glasgow Kiss SGP 3227
2. Xtra Mile2 SGP 3084
3. Porco Rosso AUS 3756
After sailing, the teams took the bar and enjoyed a multitude of beverage induced debriefs to set the record straight.
Once again the winner of the day was sailing in Singapore with great conditions, the fabulous hosts ONE°15 Marina Club and all the organisers whom are doing outstanding job. The fleet is looking forward to the Asian Grand Slam and Asia Pacific Championships which will be run over the next three days.
